Head of Business Development

Modern Human is looking for a Head of Business Development to join our growing design practice and innovation consultancy. The position is for a 12 month contract with the potential to become permanent.

Modern Human is a design practice and innovation consultancy. We help our clients to invent their future using human-centred design. We apply the latest research and design techniques to create innovative solutions to our client’s business challenges.

Our clients include Arm, BBC, Capital One, IUCN Red List, Pharmaceutical Press, Tesco, University of Cambridge and University of Oxford, to name just a few.

We’re a passionate bunch and care deeply about human-centred design; be that service design, product design or design research. The projects we do make a difference to our clients, their customers and the planet. We’d like to make a difference for even more organisations which is why we’re hiring a Head of Business Development.

Our growth so far has been based on networks, community and recommendations. Business development is a new focus for us, so you’ll need to have professional experience to bring to the role. This is an ideal opportunity for a driven, dynamic, positive, and proactive individual, who will help us achieve our ambitious growth plans, and be an influential person in helping to shape the future of the business.

The role

As Head of Business Development you will take responsibility for pro-active business development with potential new clients. In practice, this means finding potential new clients to contact, contacting them in the most effective, professional and approachable way and developing the relationship to a point where they trust Modern Human and think of us first when looking for help with a business or design problem.

To do this, it’s important you take a thoughtful and consultative approach to your work. You will need to represent Modern Human in its best light and that can only be done by having a thorough understanding of the kind of work we do and the kind of clients we work with.

As someone building initial and lasting impressions of Modern Human, you will need a good understanding of the human-centred design processes and be able to match clients needs with our services. You will need to persuasively advocate for Modern Human, building long term relationships with client decision makers and influencers.
